shoegaze

New to the forums...checked out some older posts, but didn't find anything about the current scene in Toronto. Anyone know of any shoegazers out here? I'm also open to other ambient/electronic acts!!

There are a few of us here - but not much of a local scene. We used to have a few (Airfields - whose lead singer David Lush has assured me he's still working on stuff, Sianspheric out of Hamilton, Hollowphonic) - but all have been pretty quiet of late.

There's a group that put on "tribute" shows once or twice a year (I saw a Loveless one a couple years ago on Valentines) where a bunch of local musicians played tracks from MBV's landmark disc... but the styles and genres were all over the map.

And Toronto doesn't have a great reputation for supporting gaze-type-music. Depreciation Guild get screwed almost every time they come, Serena-Maneesh had to be bumped down to a smaller venue, School of Seven Bells have done alright (and are coming back), and older stuff like MBV have done fine (giving me hope for Chapterhouse).

Alas - not a lot, sadly...

It's been a while since I've posted here. But I live here in Toronto, too.
I'm pretty happy about the Chapterhouse show coming up.

Yeah - after they cancelled and then finally re-scheduled... agreed, super exciting.

There's also a Film School / Depreciation Guild show in September (I think)... everyone needs to go. Toronto has NOT treated The Depreciation Guild well... it's such a shame! They deserve better...

I was there. It was fantastic. A few muddy mixes, but I guess I'm used to that with sound guys and shoegaze LOL!

The band seemed to be enjoying themselves... shame they were sold out of human-size men's shirts (boo) - but glad to have snagged a copy of the 5-song DVD...
