I know it's not the first band you consider when you think of shoegazing, but they are influenced by the movement. Their latest album Forth is amazing and is mainly psychedelic, but also shoegaze. Unfortunately I am not familiar with their first 2 albums, but I will soon give them a try. Any fans around here? _________________ Please click to visit http://myindiemusicblog.blogspot.com/. |

I like a lot their first album (A Storm In Heaven). They sound a lot to dreampop, passing also through space rock. It has a lot of soundwall and lots of echoes around their ambient. It's a great album.
You must get it right now |

| Their first album is great, but it's all downhill from there. In my opinion, of course. |

Most people associate The Verve with Urban Hymns. That album was hugely successful commercially. _________________ Please click to visit http://myindiemusicblog.blogspot.com/. |

Not even some of the songs? How can you not like Sonnet, or The Drugs Don't Work? _________________ Please click to visit http://myindiemusicblog.blogspot.com/. |

Ok sure one or two songs were listenable but I'll an album lover.. If I'm skipping tracks I'm skipping the album eventually, or at least listening to it less often.
I grew up on sonic youth but gave up on them because Kim's voice/singing just keep getting worse and worse after washing machine. _________________ x. |

I liked the early EPs (Feel/She's a Superstar is fantastic) and the first album I love... Northern Soul was okay, Urban Hymns is... Urban Hymns, and I really didn't care for Forth at all. Prior to issuing Forth, they released a "jam session" for free that I seem to recall was decent, but I didn't really hear much translate from the session to the album. _________________ Captains of Industry |

I totally concur with your comments that I have highlighted, johnsorc!
The early stuff is the best. As soon as Ashcroft learned to write songs; with his "acoustic stylings" that cut McCabe out of the equation, then that was the downfall...
The jam session that you refered to is known as "The Thaw Session", which was a free download via NME magazine online. A 14 minute mesmeric piece that had more in common with the first few EPs and A Storm In Heaven than anything else they ever recorded.
My favourite Verve song, for what it's worth, is "Slide Away". Or is it "Already There"? Or maybe "Gravity Grave"!!! _________________ Ruby-Ha |

first album = awesome
that B-sides EP thingy = see above
second album = mostly good, but you can hear the BP-isms creeping in.. |

Yes, I totally see the irony, playeru!
But it does some way to prove just how much I hated Brit-Pop. _________________ Ruby-Ha |
