Anyone here a fan? Ive become obsessed with them lately, from "The partys over" up to "Laughing Stock" and including Mark Hollis' solo record from 98. I just cant believe what a genius that man is!!!
Any thoughts guys and gals???

Spirit of Eden is a masterpiece, I haven't tried any of the solo stuff though. But I shall have to.. *adds to wishlist*
CW influence shines through on a few tracks lol. A little too much in places!

I totally concur with you both.
Hollis is indeed a genius, and I have everything he has done. Massive shame that he decided to give it all up.
A local rumour has it that he lives somewhere near here!

Great band but have to admit that I much prefer a later incarnation, Bark Psychosis; especially the album Codename: Dustsucker. What a masterpiece!!!

I love all the Talk Talk albums. If you're into "Spirit of Eden" and "Laughing Stock" then Mark Hollis' solo album is very much in the same vein.
I love his rationale for giving it all up though:
"Before you play two notes learn how to play one note - and don't play one note unless you've got a reason to play it."
I guess its a lot like Kevin Shields' reasoning that he wouldn't make another record unless he was totally excited by it.

There was an excellent interview in Tape-Op magazine about the recording of Spirit of Eden and/or Laughing Stock. I can't find it online. If you can, you might find the recording process interesting. Musicians often did not play together or hear one another's parts.
