Boss is a great choice!! I have a Boss overdive pedal and that thing can crank!! With the right amp settings and the guitar in the right spot you can get some crazy feedback. I'd check out some Boss stuff. Digitech's pretty cool too. I have a digitech multieffects processor and its good for some things and not good for others (like most effect processors.) I dont remember the model number, though. Like I said some things are great (delay, flanger chorus, fuzz) some things just plain suck or are useless (swell, wah-wah or "synth-wah) Wah-wah pedals are always best when they are bought individualy because with the processors you cant do anything manualy, but its timed and everything for you. I just sold a danelectro "black light" distortion pedal. But, effects arnt the only thing that go into your sound. In fact, many things go into it like, the guitar, the amp, the room you're playing in!! Not only that it depends on what sound you're going for. I noticed that some shoegaze is dreamy (Kitchens of distinction, some MBV, loveliescrushing.) Some of it is really noisy (JAMC, Flying scarcer attack FSA.) So it also depends on what sound your looking for. The guitar matters like for example: Fenders have single coil pick-ups. Which tend to be brighter and "cleaner" (in my opinion anyway.) And Gibson guitars use Humbuckers (double coil pick-ups) which have a more bassy sound. I own an Epiphone (cheaper make of a Gibson) and its good for making "dark" sounds with it. There ar many different kinds of pick-ups. If you want to know just ask, thats not really what you're looking for. Some good effects to go with (although you can use any to get the sound you're looking for if you "play" with them enough) are, Delay, Flanger, Chorus, Swell, Phaser, Reverb, Echo, Fuzz, Distortion....blah blah it goes on and on, really. I like Boss and I like Digitech. Another option is, Oliver Ackermann of SKYWAVE makes and modifies his own guitar pedals and has them for order at his site: They are kinda pricey anywhere from 170-220 USD. But, they're custom made. He does have sound samples to listen to them on the site too. The thing about making and doing modifations yourself is, if you dont know what you're doing you're going to screw up. Which can cost you a pretty penny. Any modfications you want to make should be done by someone else first or get a second opinion. There may be a cheaper way to go about it. Shop around for the best prices. Go to local music stores and ask. Sam ash are having sales all the time. Some online stores (you mau know) are: Or Hope that helps a bit.
