Shocked
Anyone else heard the new Horrors album? I have over the past couple of weeks and all I can say is believe the hype. It is total shoegazetastic. Musically and sonically a love child of MBV, Joy Division and Bauhaus (alright a love triangle child). The sounds that are coming from the guitars are the most awesome/unsettling since I played Loveless for the first time. Worth the admission price for the first two tracks alone. The closing track is a classic too mixing in the sound of Krautrock drumming to perfection. The first magical album of 2009, and this has already been a good year for music.

IMHO - the album is VERY good, but I don't have QUITE the rapturous praise the rev does...

That being said, compared to their lukewarm first album, I'm VERY impressed by this step... and I agree, the last track is an absolute CLASSIC.

Listened to the album after reading this post yesterday.
Those first two tracks blew me away, and the momentum held up for the rest of the album.
The production is very satisfying.
I'm literally listening to the album right now!

I almost avoided listening to them due to their very "fashionable" appearance.
But as the saying goes: "don't judge a book by it's cover".

Very Happy

Been avoiding replying to this post, rev, because although I pre-release streamed it on nme.com, I wasn't sure my enthusiasm would last!

But having now got it (burned from a friend, as it happens; still couldn't commit!), I must say that it really is an impressive piece of work. And I, personally, wasn't a hater of their 1st album; it was just a touch stylistically limited.

Stood near some of them at a MBV Roundhouse show last year (they are SO easy to recognize!), so am not truly surprised by the new direction, but still...

Will be buying my own copy this weekend.

Thanks for the heads up on this fellas as it would have slipped under my radar. I bought this on the strength of the comments in this thread and a little bit of on-line research and can certainly say no regrets. Can definately hear hints of MBV, Mary Chain, Joy Division and Bauhaus - its like listening to my playlist when I was 18. Very Happy

The Horrors are a pretty good band. I got into them when their album Strange House came out. I think I'm actually enjoying the newer album more. Its definitely an album I've been playing a little too much lately. I'm looking forward to seeing them and the Crocodiles in a few months in Austin.

Definitely better, IMHO.

Sadly going to miss them when they hit Toronto (Happy Mondays play the same night [smirk])... sounds like their live sound is pretty epic.

Not until October...

And I know I'll be able to see The Horrors again, no idea if Shaun Ryder will hold out for another go-round LOL!

Add to that the fact that the Psychedelic Furs are INEXPICABLY supporting the Mondays, and it was a lock... but I do wish I could have seen both. I've been extremely concert-lucky of late (dates not overlapping too often)... something HAD to give LOL!
