i was wondering, waht kind of bass amplifier is the best bet for a good shoegazing bass sound?

it is for use with a yamaha rbx170 bass guitar.

not really sure what 'shoegaze' style bass tones are. are you playing thru effects??

regardless of style you can't go wrong with an ampeg tube amp. that seems to be standard of good bass sounds across all genres. we use the ampeg ba115hpt combo. loud as fuck with warm tube front end.

I like the older Ampeg bass amps, the newer ones ... not so much. That said, my favorite bass amps are old 1960's Sunn's. Fucking loud amps, with huge warm tones.

i'm sorry. i should have been a little more clear.
we aren't planning on using anything but overdrive (for some songs only) on the bass, and what i meant by a "shoegaze" tone was a warmer tone, so i'm probbaly looking at a tube amp.

i'll check out ampegs... any other suggestions?

if you're going the ampeg route go all tube. if not then stay away from ampeg. sunn is also a very good choice! what you should do is go and try a bunch of them and see which one handles overdrive better without losing the whole "bass" feel and having to eq the amp for just one song. maybe an eq pedal as well?? who knows...

Mrs lasermonkey used a Fender Bassman 135 with a matching 4x12 cab (with the strangely angled speakers), along with fuzz and eq pedals. The rig was taller than her!
Her '73 Rick 4001 and '74 Precision sounded awesome through it.

I love the old blackface (pre-1968) Fender Bassman's. They're very versatile, as you can use them for bass or guitar.

honestly the old ampegs rule... but they are expensive... if you are looking for a warm sound and using some overdrive.. go with a fender bass amp.. or do the combo peavy 15 with the 2 10s i think it is... sweet warm sounds from both...
