I was wondering if you could explain the differences between Flemish and Dutch.
this is an on going argument between me and a band mate. we each keep using the internet to prove our side to no avail. I figure if someone here who actually lives in those countries could fill me in, I might be able to put this baby to bed. _________________ Solar Temple Suicides |

If I recall correctly Dutch=from the Netherlands, while Flemish=parts of Belgium and the Netherlands and refers to a dialect/cultural subset more than anything else.
Maybe? |

A little late but I'm from The Netherlands.
As Futuresailors said, Dutch= The Netherlands and Flemish= Dutchspeaking part of Belgium. Belgium basicly has three official languages. Dutch for the flemish region, French for Wallonia region and German for a small part of the country close to the Belgium/Germany border.
The Flemish region kinda is in the North of Belgium and to the south of The Netherlands while the Wallonia region lays in the south of Belgium and to the north of France.
It's all very complicated, they have had their share of problems because of it. |
