Hey all, just logged in for the first time here. Glad there's an active shoegaze community online
I can't really call myself a shoegaze veteran since I've only been listening to it for.. about a year? It doesn't matter however, it might have grown to be my favourite genre already. I'd actually rather say I constantly switch between shoegaze and industrial (everything from darkwave to industrial rock to EBM to rhythmic noise)
Astrobrite is, hands down, my favourite shoegaze-related band, closely followed by MBV (of course), Slowdive, Medicine and a whole bunch of other bands.
For now I think I'll just spend some time lurking around. Nice to be here _________________ |

My name is Jason, 28, live in Maryland right outside of DC. I got into shoegaze a few months ago (through investigating the genre after reading a desription of Deprication guild that mentioned the word shoegaze, and though Asobi Seksu (I tend to listen to most bands playing the venues in dc and Baltimore and fell in love with them after hearing them). I had heard the term before but never investigated it. I then found this site searching for what effects pedals to buy for my rig.
I am also into music in general. I love indie rock, EDM, Nerdcore rap, pretty much anything outside of mainstream country or pop.
I am also a musician. I have been releasing solo tracks and remixes under my alter-ego killsaly for a few years now.
www.myspace.com/killsaly
(if you like my killsaly stuff, google killsaly to find more, or PM me and i will send links to my three albums.)
I also am in a band that has only been around for a few months, Merkava. It has been rough as of late, since the keyboard player/important songwriter keeps having to travel for months at a time for work. We havent really settled on a "style", but i am aiming for a combination of shoegaze, electronic music, and indie rock.
My other big vice is Anime/Manga. I love that stuff and spend way too much time and money on it. |

Hi, I actually joined 5 years ago but I didn't post much...I've been busy I guess? Anyways I thought I'd return back to this message board so that I could meet some fellow shoegazers. (:
Bit of Background info: My name is Sheena, I'm 25, and I've been listening to shoegaze for about 8 or 9 years now. I definitely listen to it more than I used to and unfortunately I don't know any others in the area that listen to it ): - which explains why I'm here really |

Hello everyone! I am 18 years old and recently got into shoegaze. For the last 6+ years I have been a dedicated metalhead adn never really listened to anything outside of metal. I first heard about shoegaze last year when reading reviews of Alcest that described their music as a mix of black metal and shoegaze. I wanted to know what this oddly titled genre sounded like so I downloaded Loveless. I didn't like it and I deleted it.
About 6 months later I decided to try and listen again. I listened to a few songs on youtube, and it I Only Said that really hooked me. I promptly went out and bought Loveless. Since then I have bought Isn't Anything, Slowdive's Just For A Day and Souvlaki and Lush's Spooky. I also have 2 Jesu EPs, but I don't know if they are really considered shoegaze?
I am now quite hooked on this music (though I still love metal), and have also started to mess around with some shoegazey stuff on my guitar (also play bass and keys). I don't really know what it is about shoegaze, but I just find it so amazing to listen to. It just creates such an amazing atmosphere.
Anyway, I'll stop rambling now!
Cheers,
Mike. |

Hey, I'm Matt from Los Angeles.
I'm going to try to make it a point of being more active around here. It's hard to keep up with the sound I like best. This seems to be a great resource for such matters. _________________ used to be one of the rotten ones and i liked you for that... |

Hello everyone,
I've been on here for awhile. I read everything but hardly ever post and I figured it was about time I introduced myself.
My name's Tom. I'm from Nampa, Idaho. I got into shoegaze a couple of years back. I love Slowdive and My Bloody Valentine as well as newer stuff like M38, The Depreciation Guild and The Pains of Being Pure at Heart.
I'm in a band.

It's not really shoegaze, but we do get pretty noisy on occasion!
much love,
~Tom |

Howdy
At the risk of sounding like I'm posting on singles site, I'm Greg, 26, from Birminmgham UK and am slowly picking up on Shoegaze, loving Slowdive, Swervedriver, Chapterhouse, Field Mice, MBV and Ride right now...
...Also forming a new band out of the ashes of my current one, Sunset Cinema Club. I need a Keyboardist, Drummer and Guitarist and have an album of songs written! |

Hello Everyone!
I am Kieran from Bristol based Shoegaze/Post-Rock band Light of Words (www.myspace.com/lightofwords). We're releasing our next album "Those Left Behind" on Laser Ghost Records on 3rd October 2009.
We are label buddies with fellow Bristol shoegazers The Fauns, who are most excellent indeed.
I look forward to sharing everyone's insights on all things shoegaze!
Oh and if anyone is around on Thursday, we have a gig:

Welcome to the boards Kieran. I'm listening to your song "Thousand Year War" on MySpace right now. I think it's great honestly. I love how it builds. I can't wait to hear the new album. Keep us updated! |
