Ok. So I’ve recently found myself in a dilemma that I presume a lot of you have already been in. I’ve just purchased my 3rd pedal with the idea of getting a 4th/5th very soon. At the moment they are individually powered but this is becoming a major problem at home and practices as i have to bring my own multi-tap just to plug everything in.
Would you recommend investing in something like a voodoo labs power plus 2 now or go for a cheaper option like daisy-chaining, knowing that I’m going to get more pedals pretty sharply.

P.S. I’ve got a dd7, dd3 and EHX Holy stain, what would you guys recommend for the future and what order would you play these in? (dd7 is just used on reverse delay at the moment)

Thanks in advance guys!

Dan x

hey dan, i'm not a big fan of daisy chaining pedals, esp if you are using heavy power suckers like DD7's and DD3's etc. the voodoo labs are great and i know a bunch of folks that use them to power their rig.

you could also spend a bit more and get a SKB PS45 pedal board you can build on. they are rugged and you can power tons w/ them. we've had ours 3+ years w/ lots of road time and they can take a beating but protect your investments!

Hey screenvinylimage, thanks for the speedy response! I was pretty sure it was the way forward but my bassist laughed when i told him i was going to spend 150+ pounds on a power supply... What i don’t get about pedal boards is that, do I need the voodoo lab as well as the board? Please forgive my ignorance; I’m pretty new to this scene. Long-time listener, short-time musician!

Any ideas for a 4th pedal? i was thinking a tremolo but i’m worried my sound is becoming too... Digitally and loosing its warmth.

Thanks again dude,

Dan

I'm pretty sure the pedal board he's talking about comes with power, so you won't need both.
I'm in a similar situation myself and will probably get the voodoo lab and make my own board since I'm on a budget. Something like this http://www.heartwoodguitar.com/WordPressBlog/?p=199

But if you're good at that sort of thing (which I'm not) you could take it a step further with something like this http://acapella.harmony-central.com/sho ... ?t=2271963

Hey skey,

thanks for that, i'll look him up when im not at work! hehe
yeah, a chorus was my next step. I'm worried about going boss again as they have a.... digital quality to them, which isnt bad but something i'm trying to stay away from for the time being.

I don't really get phasers... Don't they just make the 'aeroplane landin' noise?

this is cheap and works really well.

You can easily make your own pedalboard out of a bit of plywood or cheap IKEA shelving

Just been wrestling with the power supply issue myself. I had a Boss Power Supply pedal which has a nice by-pass feature so you can go clean to full effect without doing a tap dance - it is fine for my Boss and Digitech pedals but no use for EHX, MXR or my RAT.

I balked at paying out around £150 for a power supply and have just got an MXR Brick for about £30 on ebay and it does the job for me very nicely - i think they are about £90 brand new - but this was a top deal!

One way to not sound digital is to go super old-school and pick up one of these bad boys:

Thanks for the input guys, much appreciated!

Skew, a couple of things... When i mentioned digital sounding, i guess its not always a bad thing but my highs were coming out very thing and short, it was something about having 2 dd's on a low delay and low repeat. I’ve changed one to a short reverse (@or sometimes modulate on the dd7) and it sounds a load warmer.
Secondly What the heck is that thing!? hahaha it looks the f-ing biz though!:P

@kernowrob Thanks for that info, how many pedals can it power and are there any restrictions of companies? I don’t think I’ll be using anything too obscure but i might have a Behringer or two for the moment...

Thanks again guys!

re the brick, it can handle 7 x9v (BOSS/Digitech etc) and 3x 18v (EHX/ RAT etc) at a time - so should be capable of covering your current and planned pedal set up..
